Sixth and Main street was the busiest intersection to direct kids safely across. Without a stoplight, it involved the train and trolley tracks and four-way traffic. Ms. Redman was the crossing guard assigned to this area. My dad, brother, and I met her on the first day attending our new school. In that instance she learned our names and offered to look after us on our journeys. Ms. Redman continued to work that same stop as I pursued my own career of becoming a high school teacher. Then I heard rumors of an investigation being ordered; an incident occurred while Ms. Redman was on duty. A kid crossed the tracks and got hit by a train. I see her every now and then wandering.
An area that is home, my paintings are autobiographically pictorial. With the painting material I flatten space and use recognizable symbols to comment on an inevitable end while inspiring hope. My work is taken from memories, current situations, and thoughts that are both loud and serene. Foreign to some yet reflect of everything I know.
